Melbourne, Australia: The Anatomy of the Self
Dates: 1-3 Feb 2018

This course is a high level introduction to Movement Shiatsu & the Six Forms of Touch. It will show how the organs and body systems are related to different dimensions of the self. more …

We will demonstrate how to work directly with energy both through different techniques of physical touch and through the language that you use.

Movement Shiatsu is particularly appropriate to working with chronic conditions, trauma and disability. Instead of trying to fix the client’s problems, it focuses on helping the client to be aware of their body and to can feel their ability to explore. This transforms them from a passive victim needing rescue into an active, empowered being who can work on themselves. To read an article which gives more idea of this theme click here

Melbourne, Australia: Tensegrity, Fascia and Developmental Meridians
Dates: 6-8 February 2018

This course explore how the fascia and connective tissues give a sense of integrity both physically and emotionally and how to work with them. more …

These tissues connect everything together and give a sense of elasticity and wholeness to the body. We will show how to contact the fascia through specific qualities of touch, how to feel and develop the elasticity of the fascia in oneself and how to use that sensation to find a sense of physical coordination and ease in movement.Bill Palmer’s research with infant development has shown that the classical meridians show the way in which babies learn to move by connecting different areas of the body. As adults we find other ways of moving, particularly using spirals and movements that cross the midline. These pathways of connection are embodied in the muscles and fascia, forming ‘personal meridians’ different to the innate ones. The workshop will show how to work with these personal meridians and help clients to be aware of their unique way of moving and being. .

Stellshagen, Germany: Working with the Ageing Process
Dates: May 4-6, 2018

This workshop will explore ways of working with the physical and emotional issues brought about by ageing. more …

As we age our energy levels decline. Change takes energy and as we get older it becomes more difficult to adapt. So it makes sense to start preparing for old age long before it arrives! This period, before and including old age, is often called the Third Age. It is a time of major change, because most of the things we value about ourselves in our youth and adulthood are disappearing. This change of self-image has been proved to be connected to many psycho-physical health problems.

But this Third Age is the ideal time for developing inner resources and spiritual capacities. In this workshop we will explore how to work with people in this period of their lives and how to help them to develop these inner capacities and to gain a new sense of self-value.

It will also show the specialist techniques from Movement Shiatsu for working with the more physical problems of Old Age such as arthritis, osteoporosis, loss of flexibility and balance and psycho-physical degeneration.

Wageningen, Holland: Aligning Body and Mind – Self & Society
Dates: May 26-27, 2018

We will show how to use Movement, Bodywork and Voicework to get in touch with our primal spontaneous energy and our deep intention (the Will) and then how to work with aligning the skeleton and releasing muscular patterns which inhibit the Will to help energy to flow clearly through the body. This theme addresses a central human dilemma: How can we value our individuality at the same time as living harmoniously with other people? see more

We often suppress our spontaneous self because of a fear of other people’s disapproval. Sometimes this is appropriate but more often it inhibits our creativity and authenticity.

One can see each individual as a community; a community of sub-personalities, organs, muscles and bones which are held together into a unified sense of self by the fascia and nervous systems.
Society’s expectations can silence most of this community. The workshop will explore, through bodywork, movement and voicework, how to wake up and listen to these forgotten parts of the self and along the way demonstrates a way of living with others creatively, valuing each others’ differences and respectfully resolving conflict.

Berlin, Germany: The Six Forms of Touch
Dates: June 9-10, 2018
a high level course in Shiatsu for both students and practitioners. more …

One of the fundamental ideas of Movement Shiatsu is that the WAY in which you contact a person has more effect than the meridian that you work with. This course will show how the Qi of the Organs is affected by the way in which you communicate, the quality of touch you use and the exercises and ‘homework’ that you give the client. The Six Forms of Touch is a system of touch training developed by Bill Palmer which explores six different dimensions of therapeutic contact. Each form of contact stimulates one of the major functions of Qi and also brings awareness to one of the physical body systems. This means that you can be working locally on a particular part of the body and, at the same time, be helping to strengthen the holistic Qi functions, without explicitly touching the meridians.

The result is that the Shiatsu becomes more intuitive and less mechanical. In addition, the forms of touch help the client to become aware of their own body in such a way that they can carry the explorations of the Shiatsu session into their everyday life.

[PGC] Vienna, Austria: Words and Hands
Dates: June 15-17, 2018
This workshop will show how to use a Shiatsu session to help a client in their personal development and to deal with chronic issues. more …

A condition turns chronic when it becomes part of a person’s self-image and usually this means there is an unconscious resistance to change, which can interfere with the process of Shiatsu therapy. This means that the client has to become more active in the therapy to allow change to happen. Movement Shiatsu combines simple movement experiments into the Shiatsu session that help the client to become aware of parts of themselves that they are blocking and they can then feed back to the practitioner exactly where they need support in order to re-integrate that part. The session becomes a process of self-exploration as well as a treatment and the client is given practical tools for continuing the work on themselves into their everyday lives.- How to ask Open Questions to facilitate body awareness
– How to create movement explorations to change dysfunctional patterns
– How meridians are related to types of movement
– How to integrate talking with bodywork.

[PGC] Zurich, Switzerland: Aligning Body and Mind
Dates: June 29-July 1 2018
A Movement Shiatsu workshop on working with the Shao Yin and Tai Yang. more …

This workshop explores how Somatic Exploration and Bodywork can help discriminate between the expectations that come from other people and our authentic inner excitement, sometimes called ‘the Will’. The workshop will show how the Fire and Water meridians combine to bring the Will into awareness and then to align the body so that our action is a pure channel for our energy.- Understanding the development of the TaiYang in babies
– Working with the Tai Yang and the skeleton to align action with intention.
– Working with common blockage areas in the skeleton
– Working with the lower burner to access the Will
– Sensing and moving the Will through Outer Rushen

Frome, UK: Movement Shiatsu Residential
Dates: July 11-15, 2018
A five day residential course which is both a journey of self-exploration and a high level course in Movement Shiatsu. We will also be teaching the full sequence of Inner Qigong which is a movement-meditation form which helps you to be aware of the Six Combined Channels (often called the Six Divisions) More about Inner Qigong

The Six Combined Channels embody the way in which babies learn to connect all the parts of the body together. In particular, two of them focus on the relationship between the Inner body and the Outer. Two relate the Lower body to the Upper and the other two relate the Left to the Right and the Back to the Front. By becoming aware of these connections through movement, one can realise where you need to work. Then the bodywork of Movement Shiatsu can help you to resolve blockages and to re-make connection within yourself. Inner Qigong and Movement Shiatsu form a self-contained dialogue between self-exploration and external facilitation.

The workshop will be practically useful for therapists of all modalities, showing an approach to working with people that doesn’t aim to fix problems but rather to wake up the capacity to explore oneself. It will be especially relevant as postgraduate or advanced level training for Shiatsu practitioners. We will be using Inner Qigong, Movement Shiatsu and Wolfson Voicework More about voicework

The voice is the most direct and personal expression of our energy, the dark sides of it as well as the light. Working with the voice can help you to open and value all the corners of your being. Sometimes the work is challenging, but it’s always rewarding and often deeply pleasurable. The work is based on the pioneering teaching of Alfred Wolfsohn and Roy Hart, who developed ways of working with the voice to access and liberate the self. You do not need to be a singer. In fact, if you feel you can’t sing, this is for you!

The work focuses on using the voice to be authentic rather than training it to pretend. Using the voice to reach into ourselves and to reach out to touch others. In the Inner Qi Gong classes we use it to feel the different qualities of energy connecting the body into an integrated whole. Bill Palmer’s view of the work is: “I see each one of us as a group all speaking through the same mouth. Many members of the group are silent and often the personality is dominated by one or two spokesmen, which means that most of our energy is hidden and suppressed. The key to this work is helping each member of our internal group to have a voice.”

[PGC] Hamburg, Germany: Tensegrity, Fascia and Developmental Meridians
Dates: September 14-16, 2018

Totnes, UK: The Six Forms of Touch
Dates: November 30th (evening) – 2nd December.

This is a unique opportunity to study with Bill Palmer who was a pioneer of Movement Therapy and Voicework in the 1980’s and who originated Movement Shiatsu. It is suitable for ALL students and practitioners of therapies that work with the body, and also for people who just want to deepen their awareness of themselves. You can read an article about the course here
Bill’s research showed how the energetics of Chinese Medicine were explained by the way in which babies develop both mind and body through movement. His teaching is profound and practical and shows how to help people to take charge of their wellbeing and value themselves for what they are rather than feeling victimised by their complaints.
The main idea of the course is that the WAY in which you contact a person has as much or more effect than the physical and technical part of the treatment.
This course will show how the holistic energies described by Chinese Medicine are affected by the way in which you communicate, the quality of touch you use and the exercises and ‘homework’ that you give the client. The Six Forms of Touch also help the client to become aware of their own body in such a way that they can carry the explorations of the session into their everyday life.
You do not need to have any prior knowledge Chinese Medicine or Shiatsu to do the course and people from many disciplines have found it inspiring and relevant to their work and self-development.
