“Movement Shiatsu & Inner Qigong”
In the process of becoming a person, some potential aspects of the self are usually suppressed and inhibited. This is normal and sometimes necessary to live together with others. Inhibition can also be a result of trauma and is a protective device to avoid pain.. But if the suppressed parts are essential aspects of your core spirit then this ‘socialisation’ can feel like a prison and after a time it saps the life force and the world turns grey.
This process of suppression is physical as well as psychological. The inhibited part is buried in the body and we numb that part and ignore it, often by holding it still. Movement Shiatsu and Inner Qigong are very safe ways of re-embodying those shadow parts of the body and self. The basic principles are to first value the inhibition for its role in protecting us from pain. Then to gently loosen the compensatory habits that are emprisoning us. Then to encourage progressive experimentation, exploring new ways of moving and behaving. When the shadow side feels supported, respected and safe then it can start to join the dance and find a way to integrate with the rest of the self.
In addition to deep personal development work, we teach you how to guide clients through the process of bringing their “shadow” into the light. Often, people come for help because they feel something in their body has “gone wrong.” Instead of trying to “fix” the body, Movement Shiatsu invites that part of the body to speak for itself — asking what it needs and how it wants to move, rather than imposing the ego’s agenda. This gentle, listening-based process often helps reveal deeper issues that need to surface. Even when no trauma is involved, simply shifting to a mindset of asking the body how it wants to move — instead of forcing movements that the ego-mind wants — can by itself be a powerful, transformative experience.
What Can You Expect
We will be working with touch, Wolfson voicework, breathwork, movement, artwork, dance and spontaneity. The course is designed for people who have studied with us before, but is not limited to them. You need to have experience of self-development work, take responsibility for your own exploration and be willing to take emotional risks. This is not a therapy group but a mature space for deep exploration. See what people say about our courses.
